Tips & Tricks for Using Ghostwriter AI

Here are tips to help you get the most out of Ghostwriter AI across all of Tailwind.

Updated this week

Tailwind's Ghostwriter AI is your built-in writing assistant, designed to help you create high-quality, engaging Pin titles and descriptions (and more) in a fraction of the time. Here's how to get the most out of it.

Where Ghostwriter Appears in Tailwind

Ghostwriter is woven throughout Tailwind — here's everywhere you can use it:

  • Pin Scheduler — Generate a title and description for any individual Pin. Open a Pin draft, click the Generate button, and get AI-written copy tailored to your URL and content type.

  • Bulk Ghostwriter — Select multiple Pins in the Pin Scheduler, click Ghostwriter, and generate unique titles and descriptions for all of them at once. A huge time-saver if you're scheduling in batches. Learn how to use Bulk Ghostwriter →

  • SmartPin — Every SmartPin draft uses Ghostwriter under the hood to write a fresh, unique title and description for your URL each week. Adding keywords to your SmartPin setup gives Ghostwriter more context to write better copy.

  • Tailwind Create — Use Ghostwriter to generate AI images directly within Tailwind Create when designing your Pins.

Each Ghostwriter generation uses Tailwind credits. You can check your current credit balance at the top of your dashboard, and purchase additional credits or upgrade your plan from your Tailwind Upgrade Page.

How to Use Ghostwriter in the Pin Scheduler

  1. Open any Pin draft in the Pin Scheduler

  2. Click the Ghostwriter button

  3. Select your content type from the dropdown (e.g., A featured product, A promotion or sale, Behind the scenes, Lifestyle content, Informational content)

  4. Enter a brief description or prompt about what the Pin is about

  5. Click Generate — Ghostwriter will write a title and description you can use as-is or edit

For Bulk Ghostwriter, select multiple Pins first using the checkboxes, then click the Ghostwriter button from the bottom menu bar.

Tips for Better Ghostwriter Results

The quality of Ghostwriter's output depends heavily on the quality of your input. Here are six tips to get better copy every time:

1. Prime Ghostwriter with a point of view

Tell Ghostwriter who it's writing as and what angle to take. This gives the AI the context it needs to produce targeted, on-brand copy. - ✅ Example: "You are a home decor blogger writing for busy moms who love farmhouse style. Write a Pin description for a blog post about DIY shiplap accent walls." - ✅ Example: "You are an e-commerce brand selling handmade candles. Write an engaging Pin description for a holiday gift set product page."

2. Start with a verb

Requests that lead with an action word tend to produce cleaner, more direct output. - ✅ "Write a Pin description for..." - ✅ "Suggest three Pin title options for..." - ✅ "List the top benefits of..."

3. Be specific about length and format

Vague length requests produce inconsistent results. Specify exactly what you want. - ❌ Less effective: "Write a fairly short description." - ✅ More effective: "Write a 2–3 sentence Pin description."

4. Include your target audience

Adding audience context helps Ghostwriter dial in the tone and angle of the copy. - ❌ Less effective: "Write a Pin description for a dinner recipe." - ✅ More effective: "Write a Pin description for a 30-minute dinner recipe targeted at busy parents who need easy weeknight meals."

5. Add keywords

If you've done keyword research in Tailwind's Keyword Research tool, paste your top keywords into your prompt or the keyword field. Ghostwriter will naturally weave them into the copy, helping your Pins rank better in Pinterest search. - ✅ Example: "Write a Pin description for a blog post about container gardening. Keywords: beginner container garden, patio vegetables, small space gardening."

6. Keep your inputs clean

Ghostwriter relies on clean inputs to produce its best results. Make sure your prompts are grammatically correct and free of spelling errors — this makes a noticeable difference in output quality.

Prompting for Specific Use Cases

For a blog post Pin: "Write a compelling Pinterest Pin description for a blog post titled '[Your Title].' The post is about [brief summary]. Target audience: [audience]. Tone: [tone]. Keep it to 2–3 sentences and include the keywords: [keywords]."

For a product page Pin: "Write an engaging Pinterest Pin description for a product called '[Product Name].' It's a [brief description]. Target customer: [audience]. Highlight the key benefit and include a soft call-to-action."

For a seasonal Pin: "Write a Pinterest Pin description for [holiday/season] content about [topic]. Make it feel timely and relevant. Tone: [warm/urgent/inspiring]. Keywords: [keywords]."
