This FAQ explains Tailwind's best practices for pinning, including how often to pin and the difference between fresh Pins and duplicate Pins.
A Note About Content Creation and the Latest Best Practices
Real Pinterest success goes beyond just the image. It's about the entire experience from start to finish. You'll want to begin with a strong, eye-catching image, then add a title and description that spark interest and encourage engagement. And just as important, when someone clicks your Pin, they should land on a website experience that feels rewarding and valuable.
Create thoughtfully! Remember that your followers see your Pins in chronological order β a few really great Pins are better than more, lower-quality Pins. You also want to think about relevance β keep the Pins you create relevant by making sure your images, copy, and links are cohesive and appeal to your audience. For this reason, we suggest saving to only your most relevant boards (no more than 10). Finally, don't forget to optimize for search by including keywords in your title, descriptions, and board descriptions.
What counts as a unique or "Fresh" Pin, and why are Fresh Pins important?
Pinterest is increasingly prioritizing fresh content for distribution, as today's pinners respond most strongly to fresh content. Pinterest's algorithm favors content that's relevant and timely, so creating more fresh Pins means more exposure to your followers, in users' home feeds, and in search results β helping you maximize your reach and traffic potential.
Fresh Pins are defined by Pinterest as images or videos that they haven't seen before. You can create several images that link to the same blog post, page, or product listing, and each of those would count as fresh when saved to Pinterest for the first time.
Note: The following changes would NOT be considered a Fresh Pin: - Pinning the same image and only changing the Pin title, description, or alt text - Making small, imperceptible changes to an image that has already been Pinned (for example, shifting your background image a few pixels or moving your logo slightly)
If you don't have any other images, use our image refresh tool which will change enough of the pixels to make it seem fresh to the algorithm without changing the image! It's available on the Pin Scheduler on the pin draft.
π The key is that the image must be new and fresh to pinners!
What counts as a duplicate Pin, and should I still share them?
Duplicate Pins are Pins with an exact image/URL combination that has already been pinned to Pinterest before (by you or anyone else).
You may still reshare your own relevant seasonal and evergreen content in moderation. It's also OK to naturally curate relevant and high-quality content to your boards, especially if it's something you genuinely love or believe your audience would love. Tailwind Communities can still be a great way to connect with fellow creators and surface fresh content.
Overall, we recommend focusing your pinning energy on creating new, fresh content. If the vast majority of your pinning is re-saving duplicate Pins, we'd encourage you to shift toward creating more Fresh Pins to maximize your distribution on Pinterest.
Pinterest's latest best practices recommend avoiding sharing the same Pin to more than 10 different boards β pinning the same Pin to too many boards can actually reduce its effectiveness and limit its potential reach.
What do I do if I typically only make a few new Pins each week? Do I only Pin a few times per week now?
In short, no! If Pinterest is a strategically important channel for you, you should invest more in creating Fresh Pins β this will help your content get the most exposure.
If you currently make one Pin for each blog post, article, product, or other piece of content, try experimenting with new images, titles, descriptions, or formats. This could involve changes to the background photo, text overlay, border, or color palette.
Tailwind makes this easier than ever. Here are the tools built specifically to help you generate more Fresh Pins with less effort:

And remember, it's still OK to save some duplicate Pins β supplementing your fresh Pins with carefully curated content doesn't hurt your distribution and may help make your profile more robust. However, if the vast majority of your pinning is duplicate Pins, you may see your performance decline over time.
What are good ways to create more Fresh Pins? Can you show us some examples?
One great way to generate many Fresh Pins is to create multiple versions of a Pin for your content by experimenting with new images, titles, descriptions, or formats. For example, if you wrote a blog post about "how to create a DIY Towel Ladder in 4 steps," great Fresh Pin alternatives might include: - Different background photos or angles - A closeup of a specific detail vs. a wider room shot - Different text overlays β one benefit-focused, one curiosity-driven - A different color palette to appeal to a different audience segment
Remember: the key is that the image must offer a substantially different experience for a pinner. Use your best judgment β if you have to look really hard to spot the difference, that's a sign to make more meaningful changes.
π‘ Pro Tip: Use the Keyword Research tool in Tailwind to find the best keywords for each new Pin you create. Adding strong, search-optimized titles and descriptions makes every Fresh Pin work even harder. Explore Keyword Research β
Do Fresh Pins outperform duplicate content?
Yes. Fresh Pins tend to outperform duplicative content on Pinterest. Pinterest is always looking to surface the best and newest ideas to its users, and its algorithm continuously prioritizes fresh, relevant content.
Many creators have already decreased their overall volume of pinning while increasing the number of fresh Pins they post β and they've reported getting better results than before. Publishing fewer, higher-quality fresh Pins increases distribution, leading to more traffic and engagement. Pinning the same duplicate Pin over and over won't result in any additional impact on your performance and could actually hamper your distribution.
What happens if I pin a lot of duplicate Pins? Will I get banned?
We can't say with certainty which factors Pinterest considers before banning an account, but we do know that excessively sharing duplicate Pins could put your account at greater risk of losing reach or being marked as spam.
Posting the same photo every day or multiple times a day could be considered suspicious, and could lead to being marked as spam. It's also a poor experience for your followers and could increase the likelihood of them unfollowing or reporting your Pins.
Tailwind's SmartGuide and Spam SafeGuard features will alert you if your current pinning activity looks like it could put your account at risk β so keep an eye on those notifications in your dashboard.
I think I might be pinning too much. What is an acceptable amount of pinning?
As always, there isn't an exact "best" number, but here are some high-level guidelines:
Focus on quality over quantity and pin thoughtfully.
The most successful accounts on Tailwind publish 15β25 Pins/day on average. If you're pinning at much higher rates β especially if most of your Pins are duplicates β this is likely hurting your distribution and could put your account at risk.
Focus on creating and publishing more fresh Pins relative to duplicates to maximize your reach and traffic potential.
Publishing fewer, more focused Pins often leads to better results than flooding your schedule with duplicates.
I need to reduce my pinning to a more acceptable level. Do I need to adjust my queue?
If you have an excessive number of Pins scheduled each day, we recommend rebuilding your schedule (timeslots) to aim toward the 15β25 Pins/day range. Here's how to generate a new timeslot schedule β

Are interval pins and board lists safe to use or still useful?
Yes, just make sure you're saving Pins to only your most relevant boards. In some cases, that may mean choosing just a select few instead of pinning to every board you can think of. As a rule of thumb, avoid sharing the same Pin to more than 10 different boards β pinning the same Pin to too many boards can reduce its effectiveness.
When using intervals to schedule the same photo to multiple boards, make sure that photo doesn't post every single day or multiple times per day β this can be seen as suspicious. We recommend using an interval of at least several days. To help you stay within healthy limits.
Can I still use Communities while staying within best practices?
Yes! Communities remain a great way to connect with peers who share your interests. Just use it judiciously by authentically sharing content you'd genuinely want to save.
Like your own audience, your Community members will most appreciate your latest, fresh content rather than Pins they've seen many times before.
If you like Communities, make sure you check out Turbo, our newest feature that is similar to communities, but everyone works together instead of splitting up into groups. It's Communities reinvented for 2026 and forward!
